Former Mount Vernon Mayor Rich Thomas jumps into crowded comptroller primary
Former Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Thomas is looking to make a political comeback and will formally announce he’s entering an already-crowded primary for city comptroller.
Thomas, who resigned as mayor in 2019 after pleading guilty to misusing campaign money, said he’s ending his “independent solitude” in an effort to clean up the city’s fiscal mess.
“This cycle of dysfunction can no longer be perceived by the public as something mistaken or new,” Thomas said in a statement first shared with The Journal News/lohud.
“I firmly believe this chaos benefits an unknown entity that has worked very hard to use the clutter of confusion to deceive the masses.”
The former mayor, who has said he was targeted in the investigation that led to his resignation as part of a wide-ranging political conspiracy, plans to hold a news conference Wednesday, Feb.
